Storing hazardous materials improperly poses great risk for people and property.

Therefore the safe storage of hazardous materials is always very much a current topic for laboratories and industries.

In the latest asecos video 3 types of safety storage cabinets with different safety standards have been tested.

Fire Performance Test of 3 most common types of Safety Storage Cabinets for Flammables

The result of the test shows crucial differences between the safety standards

Under the same conditions a single-walled sheet steel cabinet, a double-walled safety storage cabinet with mineral wool insulation according to Swedish SP method 2369 class 1 and a safety storage cabinet according to European Standard EN 14470-1 have been tested on a test ground in Finland.

All cabinets contained the same volume of hazardous materials: 24 aerosol cans and 4 liters of petrol. The result of the test shows crucial differences between the safety standards. The single-walled sheet steel cabinet exploded already after 03:05 minutes, the double-walled sheet steel cabinet with mineral wool insulation also failed after 07:53 minutes. Hardly enough time to initiate any actions such as evacuation, extinguishing or rescuing.

Only the safety storage cabinet according to EN 14470-1 resisted the extreme testing conditions and offered ten times more time for evacuation and extinguishing.
